anyway, i'm in Dijon near the train station.
my train to verona, and thus the italy leg of my trip,
leaves at 11pm. it's about 6pm now. eergh.
it's been about 3°C since we left Paris.
my hands go blue whenever i forget my gloves.
i'm guessing that's not that great.
i'm getting some nice shots though.

today i got the Volcano Choir album, Unmap.

it's got a fairly experimental, sometimes math-rocky kinda sound to it,

pretty interesting stuff. it's also just good because it has Justin Vernon

from Bon Iver singing on it. speaking of which, when emily and i saw

Bon Iver at Angel Place Recital Hall, he played a silly cover of the 1985 hit,

Your Love by The Outfield. well, i tracked it down and the banter at the end

reminds me of how much of a funny, nice guy he was.

so go out and buy the Volcano Choir album,

'cause Justin Vernon is a nice guy and cracks good jokes.

yesterday i bought yellow house by grizzly bear.

whilst buying it i walked past the guy who threatened to kill me

because i took his ex girlfriend to my formal.

anyway, angry ex boyfriends aside,

yellow house is an amazing album.

it has a much more subtle sound than veckatimest,

the greater prominence of winds and the sparse

songwriting give it an otherworldly charm.

chris taylor, the bassist and player of most of

the wind instruments on the album, is now my hero.

he was in called "My Little Dead Dick"

to those who haven't,

it sounds weird, but it's actually really good.

the story goes that Patrick met a Chinese girl, Madi,

over the internet when he was living in Taipei.

They met up in in Hong Kong, fell in love and set off

on a "pan-Asian adventure" together. And with the

photos produced started a studio named,

"My Little Dead Dick"

they've now broken up but most of the photos are up

at Patrick Tsai's website. along with the set these photos

are from, 'Modern Times'.

i will warn you though.

these were the few photos i could salvage from the collarbones gig.

i had set up my camera to ISO 200 and it reset to Auto ISO setting.

therefore nearly all of my photos of collarbones turned out with ridiculous

amounts of noise. i also went to the trouble of half blinding all my friends

trying to reflect the flash off the ceiling.

desire for lomo increased ten-fold!

today i picked up eugene's new cd, kullucinations,

the first release of his new musical project, maitreya kali.

kullucinations is an interesting, 17 min+ , ambient work,

which at times reminds me of the soundtracks to old sci-fi films,

but with odd effected noises/samples sounding throughout.

(spoons scraping a bowl around 12:10?)

if i remember correctly, eugene did this all on his laptop,

or at least he used a laptop live.

anyway it's really great, and marcus decided to go DIY

on the design, which means the liner notes are written in his

often illegible scrawl and each cd comes with its own unique hand drawn

artwork. mine was birds.

on the way home from work tonight i stopped

at the service station to get a drink.

as i walked towards the counter

i saw a guy talking to the clerk,

when i got in the line

an argument broke out between

the customer and the clerk.

the customer said

"i handed you a 20 you only handed me change for a ten"

and the clerk said

"nah man, it was definitely a tenner"

but to avoid conflict, the clerk handed him a ten.

then the lady in front of me told him

that she had seen the ten dollars

the customer had handed him.

so then the clerk, who knew he was right,

called the customer back.

after arguing and revealing he was a taxi driver

'trying to hand him change' whatever that means,

he told the clerk to check the videos even though

the lady in front of me was a witness.

he then told the clerk to "go fuck himself"

at which point the clerk was appalled

(he was one of those conservative indian guys, you know the type)

the clerk then told the customer to get out of his service station,

and whilst repeatedly telling the clerk to fuck off, he left.

as the clerk was getting told to fuck off, he replied that if

"you said it, then you mean it, and that you can go and do it to yourself"

with a few 'fuck you's in there.

he then followed him outside and screamed at him never to come back.

when he came back inside he apologised for his language.

he was evidently very ashamed.

it was a bit strange to witness a complete breakdown in the way

two grown men compose themselves,

all over money, i mean it was only 10 dollars.

i felt sorry for the clerk,

he had probably had a long day, he seemed pretty tired.

my night at work was pretty weird too.

some women tried to pay for her medium combo

with her debit card, and a hair scrunchie.

i've decided to use an awful blue and red paisley tie for a belt.

also the scarf is some weird yellow '60s thing with a henna design on it.
